Chungnam Office of Education Holds Policy Briefing on Fostering Appropriately Sized Schools

The Chungnam Office of Education announced on June 4 that it will hold the "Chungnam Office of Education Policy Briefing for Fostering Appropriately Sized Schools" from June 4 to June 10 for parents of students attending small elementary and middle schools with 60 or fewer students.

This briefing session aims to provide information on policy directions and support measures for fostering appropriately sized schools, in order to offer a better educational environment for students and realize sustainable future education, amid a rapid decline in the school-age population and an increase in the number of small schools.

The briefing sessions are being held by dividing the 15 cities and counties into four regions. The first region, consisting of Cheongyang, Boryeong, Buyeo, and Seocheon counties, held its session on the afternoon of June 4 at the Cheongyang Culture and Arts Center in Cheongyang-eup.

The second region, targeting parents from Nonsan, Gyeryong, Gongju, and Geumsan, will hold its session on June 5 at the Chungnam Office of Education Southern Lifelong Education Center in Nonsan. The third region, consisting of Yesan, Cheonan, and Asan, will hold its session on June 9 at the Yesan Youth Training Center. The fourth region, which includes Hongseong, Seosan, Dangjin, and Taean, will hold its session on June 10 at the NH Nonghyup Bank Chungnam Branch in Hongbuk-eup.

During the briefing sessions, explanations will be provided on the trends in the declining school-age population, the criteria for promoting appropriately sized schools, the operation of curricula at such schools, and the direction of funding support for fostering appropriately sized schools, to help parents better understand these issues.

Superintendent Kim Ji-cheol stated, "In accordance with the principle of selection and concentration, we will strengthen support for small schools, and at the same time, promote the fostering of appropriately sized schools within reasonable limits based on consensus among the educational community, including students, parents, faculty, and the local community."
