Xi Jinping, President of China, sent a congratulatory message to President Lee Jaemyung on June 4.
According to the state-run Xinhua News Agency, in his message, President Xi stated, "China and South Korea are important neighbors and cooperative partners," and added, "Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 33 years ago, the two countries have achieved progress together by joining hands and overcoming differences in ideology and social systems, and have achieved steady and healthy development in bilateral relations."
President Xi further emphasized that the development of bilateral relations "has not only enhanced the well-being of the peoples of both countries, but has also made a positive contribution to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region." He stressed, "I attach great importance to the development of China-South Korea relations."
President Xi stated, "Currently, as changes unseen in a century are accelerating in the world and uncertainties in the international and regional situation are increasing, China, as an important country in both the world and the region, is willing to work with South Korea to uphold the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, firmly maintain the direction of good-neighborly friendship, and adhere to the goal of mutual benefit." He added, "China is also willing to jointly lead the China-South Korea strategic cooperative partnership to continue making progress."
