"Responding Like the Real Thing"... Yeongju City Conducts Food Poisoning Simulation Drill

Reenacting a Group Meal Facility Scenario at a Senior Welfare Center
Assessing Initial Response and Follow-up Measures

The Yeongju City Public Health Center in North Gyeongsang Province has launched a realistic drill to assess its on-site response capabilities to food poisoning incidents.

On June 4, the Yeongju City Public Health Center, led by Director Kim Moonsoo, conducted the "2025 Food Poisoning Field Response Simulation Drill" at the Yeongju Senior Welfare Center.

This drill focused on intensively evaluating response capabilities by recreating the entire process from the initial report to follow-up measures, based on a scenario in which a food poisoning incident occurs at a group meal facility.

The exercise began with a simulated report of multiple patients showing suspected symptoms of food poisoning, such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, immediately after a meal.

The public health center promptly received the report and disseminated the relevant information, then organized an epidemiological investigation team to dispatch to the scene. Response procedures were carried out sequentially in accordance with real-world protocols, including environmental and human sample collection, inspection of cooking facilities for hygiene, and surveys of symptomatic individuals.

The drill also included an interagency meeting to develop follow-up measures, going beyond a simple response to also check the system for preventing recurrence.

Yeo Taehyun, head of the Health and Hygiene Division, stated, "For food poisoning, the speed of the initial response and cooperation among related agencies are extremely important. Through this drill, we have strengthened our practical response capabilities, and we will continue to do our best to protect citizens' health through ongoing training and education."

With this drill, the Yeongju City Public Health Center plans to further reinforce its proactive response system for food poisoning incidents, and ahead of the summer season, will also expand seasonal hygiene management and food poisoning prevention education.
