Establishment of University Taekwondo Team
Dongsin University announced on June 4 that it has been selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's "2025 Workplace Sports Team Establishment and Operation Support Project" and has established a university Taekwondo team.
This project is an official sports team establishment support program jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation. The Dongsin University Taekwondo team was recognized for its outstanding skills among university Taekwondo teams in the Jeonnam region and achieved the distinction of securing nationwide government funding.
As a result of being selected for this project, Dongsin University will receive approximately 50 million KRW in annual government funding for three years until 2027. The university plans to use this support for training, equipment enhancement, competition participation, and human rights education, aiming both to foster Taekwondo talent and to further expand the base of elite sports.
The Department of Taekwondo at Dongsin University has developed a "practical education model" that combines regular classes with athlete training based on its major curriculum. With the establishment of the Taekwondo team, the university plans to actively nurture outstanding high school athletes in the region and to select representatives for Jeonnam in the National Sports Festival.
Kim Cheolmin, a professor in the Department of Taekwondo at Dongsin University, stated, "Being selected for this project proves that our university is a strong institution capable of advancing both Taekwondo education and athletic performance," and added, "Through advanced team management that guarantees student-athletes' rights to education and human rights, we will contribute to the development of the local sports culture."
