Gwangju Shinsegae Launches "Give Green" Campaign
to Promote the Importance of Environmental Protection on Environment Day
Gwangju Shinsegae announced on the 4th that it will hold the "Give Green" campaign in collaboration with Beautiful Store from the 5th to the 14th.
This campaign, which will be held in celebration of Environment Day on the 5th, is designed to raise awareness among employees about the importance of environmental protection.

When employees donate usable items such as clothing and small home appliances, the proceeds from their sale will be used to support vulnerable groups. To ensure the successful operation of the Give Green campaign, Gwangju Shinsegae will provide a matching grant equal to the sales proceeds.
Gwangju Shinsegae has also launched a new program with Gwangju Environmental Movement Association to promote the value of ecological environments. To foster ecological sensitivity among children, an ecological education program for children has been running in the Mudeungsan area from April to October. In addition, a city biodiversity survey activity, which involves observing and protecting the habitats of wild animals such as otters and birds living in the city, has been conducted at various locations along the Gwangjucheon stream from March until the end of the year.
In addition to programs involving citizens and students, Gwangju Shinsegae has organized activities in which employees directly participate. On May 28, twenty Gwangju Shinsegae employees engaged in an eco-plogging activity along the Gwangjucheon stream area.
This plogging event, held to commemorate World Otter Day, involved picking up litter along the stream while observing traces of otters such as droppings, providing an opportunity to recognize the importance of the ecosystem.
In April, to mark Earth Day (April 22), Gwangju Shinsegae conducted a carbon reduction campaign with employee participation. The company has continuously promoted campaigns such as using tumblers and not leaving food waste so that employees can easily and consistently participate in everyday life. To encourage participation, coffee coupons for free beverages were offered to those who took part in carbon reduction activities and submitted certification photos.
In 2024, the company also produced children's safety umbrellas using discarded banners. To raise public awareness about discarded banners, Gwangju Shinsegae produced 250 children's safety umbrellas and provided them to six elementary schools in Seo-gu, Gwangju.
The children's safety umbrellas featured the number 30, indicating the speed limit in child protection zones, and transparent fabric to ensure clear visibility, allowing children to use them safely.
The "Alssulkeomo" campaign, held by Gwangju Shinsegae in 2023, also attracted attention. "Alssulkeomo" is an abbreviation for "the more you know, the more useful coffee grounds collection," and it was an eco-friendly activity in which Gwangju Shinsegae recycled discarded coffee grounds to make eco-friendly fertilizer for donation. Through the Alssulkeomo campaign, Gwangju Shinsegae donated 100 bags of 10 kg coffee fertilizer and plant cultivation kits to the Forest Culture Research Institute.
Lee Donghun, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, said, "Gwangju Shinsegae employees will not only remember Environment Day on June 5, but will also strive to maintain an ongoing interest in environmental protection in their daily lives," and added, "We hope that through Gwangju Shinsegae's eco-friendly activities, such as employee plogging, more people will become interested in the environment."
