The so-called 'Altman Ouster Incident,' in which Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, was dismissed and then reinstated after five days, is being made into a movie.
On June 3 (local time), the Hollywood Reporter announced that the 'Altman Ouster Incident,' in which Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, was dismissed in November 2023 and returned five days later, will be adapted into a film.
According to the report, Amazon MGM Studios, the film and television production subsidiary of Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, is currently producing a movie about the 'Altman Ouster Incident' under the title 'Artificial.' Italian director Luca Guadagnino, known for films such as 'Call Me By Your Name' and 'Challengers,' is reportedly being considered as the director.
Actor Andrew Garfield, who starred in 'Spider-Man 2,' is being considered for the role of Altman, while Monica Barbaro, who appeared in 'Top Gun,' is being considered for the role of Mira Murati, the former Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of OpenAI. Yura Borisov, who appeared in the Academy Award-winning film 'Anora,' is reportedly being discussed for the role of Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI co-founder and the person who advocated for Altman's dismissal.
Additionally, Simon Rich, a writer for the comedy program 'Saturday Night Live' (SNL), is in charge of the screenplay, and the film is expected to include significant comedic elements. However, the release schedule and specific details are still under discussion.
Meanwhile, on November 17, 2023, the OpenAI board of directors abruptly dismissed CEO Altman, stating that he could not be trusted. As a result, Altman stepped down from both his CEO and board positions. However, after most OpenAI employees protested the board's decision, Altman was reinstated as CEO just five days after his ouster.
