Like Moon's, President Lee Jaemyung's Oath of Office to Be Held in a Simple Ceremony

About 300 Attendees... Ceremony to Be Held in a Simplified Manner
Ministry of the Interior and Safety Prepares Overnight on Its Own

The oath of office for the 21st president will be held at the National Assembly on the morning of June 4. Since the presidential term begins immediately without a transition period, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety prepared for the inauguration ceremony throughout the night starting on June 3.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on June 4, President Lee Jaemyung will take the oath of office at 11 a.m. in the Rotunda Hall of the National Assembly. The ministry stated, "This event is intended to officially announce the launch of the new administration both domestically and internationally. In line with President Lee's intention to promptly address state affairs immediately upon election, the inauguration ceremony will be held in a simplified format, focusing on the oath of office."

President Lee will depart from his residence in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, pay his respects at the National Cemetery, and then take the oath of office at the National Assembly. The ceremony will consist of a simple program, including the national ceremony, the oath of office, and an address to the people. Former President Moon Jaein also held an inauguration ceremony focused on the oath and inaugural address at the National Assembly at 12 p.m. on May 10, the day after his election. The ceremony omitted the honor guard march, gun salute, and congratulatory performances.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, which is in charge of the inauguration ceremony, was reportedly busy preparing even in the early morning hours. Unlike a typical presidential election, the term begins immediately, so approval, scheduling, and the invitation list can only be finalized after the election result is confirmed. In a regular presidential election with a transition period, the ministry forms a "Presidential Inauguration Event Task Force" to prepare the ceremony in consultation with the transition committee and the president-elect. However, in this case, the ministry must handle all preparations on its own.

Approximately 300 people, including the heads of the five branches of government, party leaders, members of the National Assembly, and cabinet members, will attend this inauguration ceremony. Around 300 people also attended former President Moon's inauguration, so both events are expected to be similar in scale. About 65,000 people attended former President Park Geunhye's inauguration, while around 41,000 attended former President Yoon Sukyeol's ceremony. It was reported that the Ministry of the Interior and Safety initially considered inviting provincial governors to the inauguration, but they were ultimately omitted from the final list.
