Minju Patrol Station: "Received 160,000 Reports, Requested Sanctions on Over 600 YouTube Videos"

The Democratic Party's Fake News Response Task Force, known as the Minju Patrol Station, announced on the 3rd that "during the presidential election period, we received a total of approximately 160,000 reports, requested sanctions and corrections for over 90 media reports, more than 600 YouTube videos, and over 80 illegal banners, and succeeded in securing corrections."


As of 9 a.m. on this day, the task force reported a total of 3,596 visitors and 1,983 reports received. Cumulatively, a total of 476,928 people visited the Minju Patrol Station, with 161,424 reports submitted. By platform, YouTube accounted for 28,755 reports (17.8%), the highest number, followed by Naver with 23,813 reports (14.7%), and SNS with 23,709 reports (14.6%).

During the presidential election period, the task force filed objections with the Internet Election News Deliberation Committee (Inshimwi) regarding a total of 89 reports. Specifically, the committee issued 2 warnings, called for compliance with fair reporting in 25 cases, ordered the deletion of 2 articles, dismissed 9 cases, and rejected 2 cases. The task force also filed a total of 6 cases with the Press Arbitration Commission and explained that mediation procedures are expected to follow after the presidential election.


During the election period, the task force received a total of 796 reports and tips related to banners through the Minju Patrol Station. The task force stated, "Of these, 83 cases were reported to the Safety Report Center and the National Election Commission, resulting in the removal of a total of 21 illegal banners." However, regarding the National Election Commission, the task force also demanded institutional improvements, stating, "The commission has at times taken actions that raise questions about fairness due to biased interpretations in dealing with illegal banners."


The task force explained, "We monitored Naver comments for violations such as slander against candidates and dissemination of false information under the Public Official Election Act, and reported a total of 401 cases to the National Election Commission. Of these, 41 were deleted by the commission, and 26 were voluntarily deleted." The task force added, "Among these, we filed complaints in 10 cases where the violations were deemed particularly serious."
