Geumcheon District to Hold "Geumcheon Eco Life Day" on Environment Day, June 5

Leading the Way in Spreading a Culture of Carbon Neutral Practices

Geumcheon District in Seoul will hold the "Geumcheon Eco Life Day" event at the district office plaza from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 5, in celebration of Environment Day.

This event, which began in 2012, aims to raise awareness about the urgency of responding to the climate crisis and to provide opportunities for participants to experience carbon-neutral and green lifestyles in their daily lives. Except for the COVID-19 period, it has continued annually as Geumcheon District's representative eco-friendly campaign.

This year's Geumcheon Eco Life Day is organized around three themes: "Learning," "Enjoying," and "Acting." The "Learning" program will feature an exhibition of award-winning photographs from the Korea Meteorological Administration's Weather and Climate Photo Contest, a carbon neutrality OX quiz, and a zero-waste store experience.

At the "Enjoying" experience booths, participants can take part in activities such as planting air-purifying plants, making bracelets featuring endangered animals, creating sea glass keyrings, trying out pedal-powered bicycles, decorating mini eco-bags, and refilling eco-friendly kitchen detergents. The "Acting" section will encourage practical actions in daily life, such as offering free coffee to those who bring tumblers, exchanging recyclables, and distributing effective microorganisms (EM).

Yuseong Hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon District, stated, "Geumcheon Eco Life Day is a platform for residents to learn about, enjoy, and act on carbon neutrality," adding, "We will continue to work together with residents to build 'Carbon Neutral City Geumcheon' in the future."
