Some Players Including Amad Diallo Face Criticism Over Attitude
Soccer star David Beckham has criticized the irresponsible behavior displayed by Manchester United players during the club's Asia tour.
On June 1 (local time), Beckham said on US broadcaster CBS, "There have been many actions by the Manchester United squad that are unacceptable."
He stated, "I am not happy with what is happening at the club," adding, "While what happens on the pitch is important, as a Manchester United fan, I have seen things that I cannot accept."
Beckham emphasized, "Players must represent the Manchester United badge and carry a sense of responsibility," and added, "During our time, we understood what it meant to play for Manchester United and the significance of the badge." He continued, "Whether in Europe or Asia, we respected our fans. We were a very polite team," urging the current Manchester United squad to reflect on their behavior. Beckham was a leading player during Manchester United's golden era from 1992 to 2003.
Manchester United finished the 2024-2025 English Premier League (EPL) season in 15th place, marking the worst result in the club's history. Following this, Manchester United embarked on an Asia tour, but suffered a 0-1 defeat against the 'ASEAN All-Stars,' a team composed of the best players from ASEAN countries, damaging their reputation. On May 31, they won 3-1 against the Hong Kong national team.
However, the attitude displayed by Manchester United players during the tour has come under criticism. According to ESPN in the United States, winger Amad Diallo made an obscene gesture toward fans outside the team hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He claimed he had heard insulting remarks about his mother and stated that he did not regret his actions.
A video of Alejandro Garnacho arguing with a fan who was filming him was also posted on social networking services (SNS).
