This was a wise decision by Scottie Scheffler, the world number one and defending champion.

On June 1 (local time), at the Muirfield Village Golf Club (par 72, 7,569 yards) in Dublin, Ohio, USA, Scheffler claimed a dominant four-stroke victory at the Memorial Tournament, a PGA Tour Signature Event with a total prize fund of $20 million. This marked his third win of the season and the 16th of his career, just two weeks after victories at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson and the major PGA Championship last month. The winner’s prize was $4 million (approximately 5.5 billion KRW).

Scheffler has collected three trophies in his last four tournaments. He also overtook Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland ($13,978,340) to take the top spot in this year’s money ranking with $14,588,697. For this tournament, Scheffler referred back to the PGA Championship two weeks ago. He once again chose to use the same clubs as then, removing the Srixon ZU85 3-iron and adding the TaylorMade Qi35 7-wood (21 degrees). With this setup, he attacked the Quail Hollow course with precision and captured the major championship title.

At the Memorial Tournament, Scheffler played calmly and steadily. On the challenging Muirfield Village course, he posted rounds of 70-70-68-70 over four days. He said, “Winning is always great. This tournament is always tough,” adding, “Overall, I played really well. I’m happy to have finished strong.” Scheffler will skip the RBC Canadian Open, which begins on June 5, and prepare for the US Open starting on June 12.
