The Incheon Health and Environment Research Institute announced on June 2 that, ahead of "Oral Health Day" (June 9), it conducted safety tests on 36 commercially available oral rehydration solutions (mouthwash and oral cleansers) and found all of them to be compliant with safety standards.
From March to May, the institute analyzed the content of active ingredients and other factors in oral rehydration solutions sold at pharmacies, large discount stores, and household goods stores in the Incheon area.
The test results showed that the sodium fluoride (fluoride) content, which helps prevent cavities, ranged from 90.0% to 108.5% (standard: 90.0% to 110.0%). Ingredients known for their antibacterial and deodorizing effects in the mouth?cetylpyridinium chloride, eucalyptol, L-menthol, methyl salicylate, and thymol?were found to be within the range of 90.3% to 121.3% (standard: 90.0% or higher). All products met the required standards.
While oral rehydration solutions help maintain oral hygiene and prevent cavities, some products are prohibited for use by children under the age of six. Therefore, consumers must carefully check the efficacy, usage instructions, and precautions when purchasing these products.
An official from the Incheon Health and Environment Research Institute stated, "We will continue to ensure safety through ongoing monitoring of daily-use quasi-drugs and provide information that citizens can trust."
