The Gwangju City branch of the Democratic Labor Party has reportedly missed the registration deadline for poll and ballot counting observers for the 21st presidential election in the Buk-gu district of Gwangju.
According to the Buk-gu Election Commission in Gwangju on June 2, the Democratic Labor Party's Gwangju City branch did not submit a registration report for poll and ballot counting observers in the Buk-gu district.
Under the Public Official Election Act, political parties are required to select two poll observers and nine ballot counting observers (six from political parties and three independents), and report them to the relevant election commission no later than two days before the election day.
The other four autonomous districts in Gwangju have completed observer registration as required.
It has been reported that after the registration deadline passed the previous day, the Democratic Labor Party's Gwangju City branch sent an apology text message to observer applicants, stating, "We failed to register observers for the Buk-gu district during the registration process. We were unable to register due to missing the deadline," and added, "We sincerely apologize for this oversight."
