Mentioning Gubernatorial and House Elections
"Only Elections Can Change the Situation"
Former US President Bill Clinton directly criticized President Donald Trump, stating that "he will pay the price."
In an interview with CBS's Sunday Morning on June 1 (local time), Clinton described President Trump as "someone who believes that whatever he says is the law," adding, "I have never seen anyone like him in my life."
Clinton referred to the fact that President Trump sought to impose sanctions through executive orders on law firms that did not align with his preferences, such as those representing the opposition Democratic Party as clients. He said, "This is not America," and pointed out, "Even judges appointed by President Trump are restraining him. He is trying to find a way to ignore court orders, but it will not be easy."
Clinton argued that the majority of Americans would not agree with President Trump's way of conducting himself. He also predicted that if the Democratic Party wins this year's gubernatorial elections and the 2026 House elections, public opposition to President Trump will gain momentum.
Clinton, a Democrat who served as US President for eight years starting in 1993, emphasized, "The only thing that changes everything is elections." He stated that President Trump also has the right to do what he believes is right, but added, "Someone needs to say, 'We cannot throw away America's legacy. We should not insult others just to win, and we must unite again.'"
Clinton, who is 78 years old, was hospitalized with a high fever late last year but stated that he currently has no health issues. Regarding concerns about cognitive decline during former President Joe Biden's term, he said, "I have had many long conversations with him, but not once did I think, 'He can't do the job,'" adding, "Former President Biden was always perfectly aware of meeting materials and current issues." He also commented on the recent publication of a book claiming Biden's cognitive decline, saying, "Some people seem to be using that book to make it appear as if President Trump's election would be solely Biden's responsibility."
