The project, which began on April 30, has seen an unexpectedly high participation rate, with 16,000 out of approximately 32,000 residents aged 70 or older applying, despite the long holiday in May. Notably, the application rate surpassed 50% within just one month of implementation, indicating rapid settlement of the program.
'Tong(Hanam)' is a program that reimburses transportation costs for Hanam residents aged 70 or older who use metropolitan, city, or village buses within the city, up to a maximum of 160,000 won per year (with a quarterly limit of 40,000 won).
The reimbursement is deposited into the applicant’s NongHyup account under their own name at the end of April, July, October, and January, based on the amount used. The first reimbursement for usage in May and June 2025 is scheduled to be made at the end of July.
Applications are currently accepted at 22 local NongHyup and Livestock Cooperatives at any time. Applicants must bring their ID (required), G-PASS card, and NongHyup bankbook (if they have one) when visiting. Detailed information and application instructions are available on the Hanam City website, as well as through leaflets, posters, and QR codes provided at NongHyup branches and administrative welfare centers.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae stated, "'Tong(Hanam)' is a meaningful beginning that will lighten the steps of our seniors and make Hanam a warmer and happier city," adding, "We will continue to pay close attention so that more seniors can benefit from this program."
Hanam City plans to further strengthen related promotional efforts with the goal of reaching a 60% application rate (19,200 people) by the end of the year.
