Independent presidential candidate Hwang Kyoan announced on June 1 that he is withdrawing his candidacy and declaring his support for People Power Party presidential candidate Kim Moonsoo.

During a YouTube broadcast that day, Hwang stated, "Because we need to concentrate all our remaining strength, I will support candidate Kim Moonsoo," and added, "I support what candidate Kim is doing."
He went on to emphasize, "I will withdraw, assist candidate Kim, and do my utmost to ensure that we can definitely protect the administration."
Hwang also said, "Now, the one remaining task for me is to prevent election fraud," and added, "Fortunately, candidate Kim has pledged to correct election fraud."
He further commented, "The most critical task is to prevent Lee Jaemyung from being elected," and added, "Candidate Kim is also the one who can fight against anti-state forces."
