"We Will Not Forget Their Dedication"... On June 1, Pohang Mayor Kangdeok Lee attended the funeral ceremony for the fallen soldiers of the maritime patrol aircraft crash, which was solemnly held at the Naval Aviation Command. He paid his final respects to the deceased and expressed his deepest condolences to the fallen soldiers and their bereaved families.


Mayor Lee stated, "I extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the soldiers who lost their precious lives in this sudden accident and to their families. I will do my utmost to ensure that their dedication to the country is not in vain by providing administrative support at the city level to prevent recurrence and by doing my best to honor and support the bereaved families."


This accident, which occurred in Pohang on May 29, brought great sorrow to the local community, and the atmosphere of mourning and remembrance among citizens continues.


Pohang City is maintaining close communication with the military and related agencies regarding this accident, and is cooperating to ensure smooth accident response and investigation of the cause.


In particular, the city plans to actively consult with the Ministry of National Defense and others to establish measures to prevent recurrence in preparation for similar situations.


Additionally, the city deeply empathizes with the grief experienced by the bereaved families and will make every effort to honor and support them so that the sacrifice of the soldiers is not in vain.


On May 30, Mayor Lee visited the joint memorial altar for the maritime patrol aircraft crash, which was set up at the gymnasium within the Naval Aviation Command, to pay tribute and honor the memory of the fallen soldiers.


Those who paid their respects at the joint memorial altar included Mayor Lee, Pohang City Council Chairman Ilman Kim, National Assembly member Jungjae Kim, Gyeongbuk Province Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Geumhee Yang, senior Pohang City officials, and Pohang City Council members, all of whom prayed for the repose of the deceased.
