Lee Jae Myung: "Politicians Must Be Investigated If Responsible for Insurrection"

Determined to Identify All State Agency Collaborators in the Insurrection
Emphasizes the Effectiveness of Local Currency
Stresses the Need to Restore the Blue House as Soon as Possible

Lee Jae Myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, expressed his intention to conduct an investigation through a special prosecutor regarding former President Yoon Suk Yeol's insurrection charges on May 30. Lee stated, "If a politician is responsible, an investigation must be conducted."

Appearing on JTBC's YouTube broadcast that day, Lee said regarding the insurrection, "I believe there are quite a few among the cabinet members," and added, "We have requested cooperation from all major state agencies, and many have cooperated. We will identify everyone involved, uncover the truth, and hold them accountable." He also left open the possibility of investigating politicians.

He said, "If politicians are responsible, an investigation must be conducted," and continued, "I believe there was a division of roles. Many people would have been involved in seizing administrative power, and do you think they only used force to control the legislature? I believe someone from the People Power Party supported it." He added, "If someone who could have prevented the coup helped lift martial law, it must be thoroughly investigated and they must be punished."

Regarding the controversy over political retaliation, he said, "Political retaliation is when you follow someone around 24 hours a day trying to create crimes that don't exist or find crimes that don't exist."

He also expressed his commitment to introducing local currency. Lee stated, "(Local currency) is a policy that could one day win the Nobel Peace Prize." He explained, "If you provide 10% support for local currency and sales increase, there is a tenfold multiplier effect. It doesn't cost much and benefits everyone." He also emphasized that by restricting the area of use, the local economy can be revitalized.

Regarding the relocation of the presidential office, he said, "The Blue House is the best. It has been used for a very long time, has symbolic and cultural value, and there is no reason not to use it. In terms of security, it is optimal." He further stated, "We should restore the Blue House and move in as soon as possible. When people are struggling to make a living, does it make sense to waste hundreds of billions or even trillions just because the head of state feels uncomfortable or uneasy?"
