Nonsan City Hall Official Referred to Prosecution for Accepting Millions of Won in Bribes from Government Supplier Nonsan City Hall Exterior View

An official from Nonsan City Hall in South Chungcheong Province has been referred to the prosecution on charges of accepting millions of won in bribes after being solicited to facilitate the supply of government-procured materials.

According to an Asia Economy report on May 30, Grade 6 official A from Nonsan City Hall is accused of providing preferential treatment in June 2022 for a project under their jurisdiction in Nonsan, enabling company B to supply government-procured materials worth approximately 5.6 million won at the company's request.

In addition, there are indications that A repeatedly assisted company B in having its materials selected as government-procured items for Nonsan City projects on several occasions.

In return, A is reported to have received cash totaling several million won from company B on three occasions between October and November 2021.

It has been revealed that the cash A received was provided before the implementation of the relevant project, raising suspicions that the bribes were given in advance in exchange for the promise of future supply contracts.

This information came to light during an investigation by Daejeon Dunsan Police Station into alleged violations of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (bribery) involving a former secretary of the Seo-gu District Office in Daejeon.

On May 22, the police referred A to the prosecution without detention on charges of bribery.
