Reviewing the Protection System for Information and Communications Infrastructure

Government Holds Information and Communications Infrastructure Protection Committee Meeting Following SKT Hacking Incident Kang Kiseon, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Yonhap News

On the morning of May 30, the government announced that it held the 32nd Information and Communications Infrastructure Protection Committee meeting at the Seoul Government Complex, presided over by Kang Kiseon, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, to review the protection system for major information and communications infrastructure.

This meeting was convened in response to the "SKT cyber breach incident" that occurred last month, with the aim of re-examining the major information and communications infrastructure and protection systems in both the private and public sectors, and to raise awareness among relevant ministries.

Committee members from 20 organizations, including the National Intelligence Service and the Ministry of Science and ICT, attended the meeting. They discussed measures such as newly designating currently unassigned critical data storage facilities as major information and communications infrastructure.

Once designated as major information and communications infrastructure, facilities are subject to vulnerability analysis and assessment, and more thorough inspections are conducted through the establishment of protection plans and regular management.

Kang Kiseon, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, stated, "It is now time for all organizations to fundamentally re-examine their information protection systems," and urged, "Each ministry should systematically prepare by conducting pre-inspections and strengthening security for their respective facilities."
