21st Presidential Election Early Voting Turnout at 24.55%... Jeonnam 43%, Daegu 17%

As of 11 a.m., 10.89 Million Have Voted
Honam Region Surpasses 40% Turnout While Yeongnam Lags Behind
High Interest Continues on the Last Day of Early Voting

As of 11:00 a.m. on May 30, the last day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the nationwide average early voter turnout stood at 24.55%.


On this day, the National Election Commission announced that, as of 11:00 a.m., 10,899,306 out of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had participated in early voting.


The nationwide average early voter turnout is 24.55%. This is the highest figure for this time of day among all nationwide elections, excluding by-elections and re-elections, since the early voting system was first introduced in the June 4, 2014 local elections.

So far, the region with the highest voter turnout is Jeonnam (43.04%). Jeonbuk (40.14%) and Gwangju (38.91%) follow, with the Honam region showing overwhelmingly high participation rates. In the Seoul metropolitan area, Seoul (24.03%) and Gyeonggi (23.03%) are both below the national average, as is Incheon (23.09%).


Daegu has the lowest voter turnout at 17.20%. Busan (21.25%), Gyeongbuk (21.68%), and Gyeongnam (21.83%) follow, with the Yeongnam region as a whole showing turnout rates well below the national average.


Early voting, which began on May 29, is being held over two days, concluding today. Voting hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To participate in early voting, voters must bring a valid ID and visit an early voting site.
