Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul will further strengthen its recognition and support for national merit recipients and their families in June, the Month of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. On May 30, the district announced that it has prepared a variety of events to honor the dedication and sacrifices of those who served the nation.

On June 2, Mayor Choi Hogwon will attend a memorial ceremony at the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery to pay tribute to the noble sacrifices of the nation’s patriots. On the same day, the district will provide consolation funds for the Month of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to approximately 3,600 national merit recipients in the region.
On June 5 at 2 p.m., a commemorative event for the Month of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will be held at Yeongdeungpo Art Hall. Representatives from veterans’ organizations, North Korean defectors, and local residents will come together to express their gratitude to national merit recipients and their families. The event will begin with a performance by the Army 52nd Division military band, followed by commendations and plaques of appreciation for merit recipients, a special security lecture, and a commemorative performance. This year’s security lecture will focus on the causes of separated families after the Korean War and the historical relevance of Yeongdeungpo District.
On June 6, Memorial Day, the district will operate free shuttle buses between the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery and the National Daejeon Memorial Cemetery to provide transportation support for national merit recipients and bereaved families attending the 70th Memorial Day ceremony.
In addition, Yeongdeungpo District is the first among Seoul’s autonomous districts to collaborate with funeral service providers to offer free use of funeral halls for national merit recipients. The district is also promoting various support programs, including merit recognition allowances, condolence payments for bereavement, subsidies for visits to historic sites, and the establishment of priority parking spaces for national merit recipients.
Mayor Choi Hogwon stated, “We will continue to provide heartfelt recognition so that the patriots who sacrificed for the nation and their families can take pride and be respected,” and added, “We will do our utmost to share the value of honoring veterans and ensure that the spirit of patriotism takes root in daily life.”
