Hybrid Work Arrangement with Office and Remote Options
OpenAI, which has officially entered the Korean market by establishing a local corporation, has begun recruiting experienced professionals to work at its domestic office.
According to the IT industry on May 29, OpenAI posted job openings the previous day through the recruitment platform LinkedIn and its own careers page, seeking personnel to work at its Seoul office.
The six positions OpenAI is hiring for in Korea are: Account Director (Digital Native), Account Director (Enterprise), Account Director (Strategic), Customer Success Manager, Solutions Architect, and Solutions Engineer.
The work arrangement is hybrid, requiring employees to work from the Seoul office at least three times a week, with the option to work from home on other days. OpenAI has not yet finalized the location of its Seoul office.
According to the job postings, applicants must be fluent in both Korean and English, and depending on the position, must have between a minimum of five years (for Solutions Architect) and fourteen years (for Account Director) of relevant experience.
Some positions require proof of past performance. For example, candidates for the Account Director (Enterprise) role must have achieved an annual revenue target of at least $2 million (approximately 2.76 billion KRW) for three consecutive years and have experience collaborating with one of the global top 1,000 companies. The technical position of Solutions Architect requires experience building generative artificial intelligence (AI) or proficiency in programming languages such as Python or JavaScript.
The job postings also specify the qualities OpenAI is seeking in candidates. Applicants must have a strong curiosity about and passion for AI. Some positions require a sense of responsibility for ethical AI. For Account Director roles, the company is looking for builder-type individuals who are interested in establishing systems and processes.
On May 14, OpenAI completed the registration of its corporation and established 'OpenAI Korea Yuhan Hoesa' as its Korean subsidiary. The establishment of OpenAI's Korean office marks the third in Asia and the twelfth globally.
OpenAI decided to establish a local branch in Korea as the number of users of its services, such as ChatGPT, has increased in the country. According to OpenAI, Korea has the second highest number of paid ChatGPT subscribers in the world, after the United States. The number of weekly active ChatGPT users has increased more than 4.5 times over the past year, placing Korea among the top 10 countries globally in terms of user numbers.
