Dongdaemun-gu Operates "New Moms Gathering"

A Five-Week Parenting Skills Program for 22 Mother-Baby Pairs
From Baby Weaning Foods to CPR: Essential, Customized Education for Real-Life Parenting

The "Dongdaemun-gu New Moms Gathering," operated as part of the "Seoul Baby Health First Steps" initiative by Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pilhyeong), is receiving a positive response.

This gathering for new mothers is being held over approximately five weeks, from May 13 to June 17, for 22 pairs of mothers and babies residing in the district. With the theme of "Enhancing Parenting Competency for New Moms," the program is conducted in person at the Dongdaemun-gu Agasarang Center, which opened in October last year.

The program features invited childcare experts and covers practical topics that can be immediately applied in real-life parenting situations, such as baby health management, emergency response for infants and young children, and forming attachment with babies.

In particular, the curriculum combines education with hands-on experiences, focusing on strengthening mothers' practical parenting skills.

The five-week program consists of: Week 1: Getting to Know Each Other and "Becoming a Mom"; Week 2: Infant and Toddler CPR and Emergency Response Training; Week 3: Understanding and Managing Atopic Dermatitis; Week 4: Sensory Development Play for Infants and Toddlers; and Week 5: Step-by-Step Baby Weaning Foods. The program covers topics closely related to the interests and daily lives of new mothers.

Through this gathering, the district provides reliable, expert-based parenting information instead of unverified sources, helping parents raise their children in a more stable environment. In addition, by sharing early parenting anxieties and concerns, participants are able to foster emotional stability and a sense of connection, becoming a strong source of support for one another among new mothers.

Ms. Kim, who participated in the program, shared, "I felt lonely raising my first child, but through this gathering, I was able to share my concerns and receive expert advice, which brought me great comfort. I am grateful that I now spend more time smiling with my child."

Lee Pilhyeong, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "As the trend of later marriage and childbirth continues in society, careful management of the health of mothers and young children is becoming increasingly important. We will actively work to overcome the low birth rate and make Dongdaemun-gu a great place to have and raise children."
