Final Inspection of Early Voting Stations in Preparation for the 21st Presidential Election
Special Checks Conducted for Illegal Devices and Accessibility for Voters with Disabilities
On May 28, Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province conducted a final inspection of early voting stations within its jurisdiction to ensure smooth voting operations, one day before the early voting period for the 21st presidential election.
On this day, Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, visited the Myeonggok-dong early voting station in line with the mock voting schedule held at 55 early voting stations in the city. He inspected the voting equipment and communication network, and personally participated in the mock voting to thoroughly check every step of the voting process.
In particular, considering that illegal cameras were discovered at some early voting stations in areas such as Seoul and Busan during the 22nd National Assembly election last year, a special inspection for illegal devices was conducted. He also urged meticulous checks for accident prevention and the provision of accessible facilities for people with disabilities.
The city plans to operate a 'Voting and Ballot Counting Support Situation Room' from May 29, when early voting begins, until June 4, when ballot counting is completed. This will enable systematic management of voting and ballot counting and allow for prompt response to various incidents and accidents.
Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "Election support work is a statutory duty, and there must not be even the slightest gap," adding, "We will manage and support the process thoroughly until the end of the election to ensure that voting proceeds fairly and smoothly."
Meanwhile, early voting for the 21st presidential election will take place over two days, from May 29 to May 30, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Voters can cast their ballots at any early voting station nationwide by bringing identification such as a (mobile) resident registration card, passport, or driver's license. The locations of early voting stations can be checked on the website of the National Election Commission.
