The Gwangju City government has begun inspecting polling stations to ensure that more citizens can participate in the 21st presidential election in a more comfortable environment.

On May 28, Mayor Kang Gijeong visited the Dongcheon-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Seo-gu to closely inspect the installation of the polling station and the accessibility measures in place. Seo-gu Mayor Kim Igang also participated in the on-site inspection.

Starting on this day, the city will sequentially conduct comprehensive inspections of 453 advance and main polling stations. The purpose of these inspections is to enable voters to cast their valuable votes in a safer and more pleasant environment and to help establish a fair election environment.

On this day, Mayor Kang examined all aspects of the polling station facilities, including the height of ramps and space for electric wheelchair movement, installation of voting booths for people with disabilities, securing space and movement lines in and out of polling stations, installation of guidance signs, and checking for any illegal recording devices.

In particular, since there were cases in the 22nd National Assembly election where voters could not cast their ballots due to ramp issues, the city strengthened inspections of facilities for people with disabilities to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

Mayor Kang stated, "Small changes to improve polling station accessibility, such as installing wheelchair ramp steps, can greatly encourage voter participation," and added, "We will thoroughly prepare to ensure that every voter can cast their ballot safely and comfortably."

Meanwhile, by using the 'Find a Polling Station' service provided on the website of the National Election Commission, voters can cast their ballots at the nearest early voting station, which helps reduce congestion on election day and allows for a smoother exercise of voting rights.
