Boseong County Leads Promotion of Agricultural Heritage with Traditional Tea Experience Tourism Support

Choice of Experience Fee or Vehicle Rental Fee for Groups of 20 or More

On May 28, Boseong County in South Jeolla Province announced that it will promote the "Traditional Tea (Food) Making Experience Tourism Support Project" until October to widely publicize the value of the "Boseong Traditional Tea Agricultural System," which has been designated as National Important Agricultural Heritage No. 11.

This project has been underway since 2008 to develop the "Boseong Traditional Tea Agricultural System" as a tourism resource and to invigorate the local economy.

The program is held at 22 designated experience venues within the county, including the Korea Tea Museum and Gamakjae Tea Plantation, where visitors can directly participate in the process of making traditional tea (food).

The county provides support to groups of 20 or more tourists, who can choose between a tea (food) making experience fee (20,000 won per person) or a vehicle rental fee (ranging from 400,000 to 550,000 won depending on distance).

Groups wishing to participate can apply in advance by contacting the Jeollanam-do Tourism Association by phone, where they can receive information on schedules, detailed programs, and experience venues.

A county official stated, "Boseong's traditional tea is not just a beverage but an agricultural cultural heritage that has been passed down through generations and is a symbol of local identity. We hope that this experience support will attract more tourists to Boseong and that the value of traditional tea will become more widely known."

Meanwhile, during the 48th Boseong Dahyang Tea Festival held from May 2 to May 6, the county recruited about 500 experience tourists. In the second half of the year, the county plans to continue attracting group tourists in connection with the Yeolseonru Festival, scheduled for October. Through these efforts, the county intends to share the outcomes of the project and actively discover sustainable tourism models utilizing traditional agricultural heritage.
