On May 28, Gwangju City announced that it had held the "2025 Local Tax Research Project Presentation Contest" jointly with the Korea Local Tax Research Institute at Mudeung Hall in City Hall on the afternoon of the 27th, aiming to promote the development of local tax administration and strengthen tax policy capabilities.


More than 70 local tax officials from Gwangju City and its five autonomous districts attended the presentation contest to share the results of policy research for the advancement of the local tax system.


Under the themes of improving the local tax system and expanding independent financial resources, five research projects were presented: ▲ Dong-gu, Measures to Improve the Local Income Tax System ▲ Seo-gu, Tax Audit: Transitioning to the Next Generation ▲ Nam-gu, Local Taxation Measures for the Subscription Economy ▲ Buk-gu, Plastic That Hurts Me: Pay Tax If You Use It! ▲ Gwangsan-gu, Redesigning the Local Tax System in Response to Demographic Changes.


The grand prize was awarded to Officer Koo Kyungtae for his presentation on "Plastic That Hurts Me: Pay Tax If You Use It!" Officer Koo will represent Gwangju City at the "National Local Tax Development Forum" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in the second half of the year.


Kim Daejeong, head of the Taxation Division, said, "This presentation contest was a meaningful occasion where in-depth research was conducted for the development of local taxes, including expanding independent financial resources and discovering new tax sources," and added, "We will continue to conduct research and communication to enhance the expertise and fairness of tax administration."
