Budget Allocated for Key Projects Including Safety and Local Economic Revitalization
Final Approval Scheduled at the 344th Regular Session of the Dongdaemun-gu Council on June 20
Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pilhyung) has submitted a total supplementary budget proposal of 72.5 billion won for the first round of the 2025 fiscal year to the district council.
The budget allocates 61.7 billion won to the general account and 10.8 billion won to the special account, distributing resources to ensure the smooth implementation of key projects such as building a safe city and revitalizing the local economy.
To create a pleasant and safe urban environment, the budget includes: 3.09 billion won for post-fire maintenance at the Dongdaemun Environmental Resource Center (cleaning, demolition of damaged facilities, and waste disposal); 3.454 billion won for the expansion of Dapsimni Neighborhood Park; 1.2 billion won for the advancement of the intelligent CCTV project; 3.2 billion won for road facility maintenance and alleyway improvements; and 1.935 billion won for maintenance of sewage facilities and dredging to prevent sinkholes.
For local economic revitalization, the budget includes: 201.5 million won to promote local brand commercial districts; and 187 million won to support small business owners affected by storm and flood damage and to improve working environments in urban manufacturing.
Additionally, extra funds have been allocated to enhance the completion of major ongoing projects such as the construction of a new Imun 2-dong office building and public parking lot, the establishment and operation of a district-run 50 Plus Center, and meal support for low-income seniors. New initiatives include support for centenarians with congratulatory gifts and a pilot project for the School Manager program.
This supplementary budget proposal is scheduled to be finalized on June 20 after review and approval by the Dongdaemun-gu Council.
Lee Pilhyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "Despite challenging economic conditions such as high inflation and economic stagnation, we have focused the budget on essential projects that residents can truly feel." He added, "Once the budget is finalized, we will execute it swiftly to ensure the safety of residents and the recovery of the local economy."
