Yang Bunam of the Democratic Party of Korea, the Chief Standing Election Committee Chair of the "Real Republic of Korea Gwangju Election Committee," held an emergency press conference on the 27th at the Gwangju City Council regarding former Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon's declaration of support for Kim Moonsu, the People Power Party's presidential candidate. Yang Bunam, the Chief Standing Election Committee Chair of the Democratic Party of Korea's "Real Republic of Korea Gwangju Election Committee," stated on the 27th, "Former Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon's support for Kim Moonsu, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, is a betrayal of Honam and an act that insults the spirit of Gwangju," adding, "The local community is outraged."

On this day, Chair Yang held an emergency press conference at the Gwangju City Council and emphasized, "Kim Moonsu is the shadow and political avatar of the Yoon Sukyeol administration, and he has consistently sided with the powers undermining democracy." He continued, "Supporting such a figure is not merely a political choice; it is a denial of the Gwangju spirit and an act that tramples on the honor of Gwangju citizens who defended democracy with their blood."

He stated, "Former Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon rose to the position of Democratic Party leader thanks to the overwhelming support and encouragement of Gwangju citizens. It is no exaggeration to say that his political career was built on the sacrifices and dedication of Gwangju and Honam." He added, "For him now to support Kim Moonsu, a force of insurrection far removed from the spirit of May 18, is shocking."

Chair Yang stressed, "Politics cannot go against the will of the people. Any politician who turns their back on the spirit of Gwangju will ultimately be rejected by Gwangju as well." He appealed, "Please help achieve a decisive victory and a change in government through the early voting on May 29-30 and the main vote on June 3."
