Sejong City announced that it achieved 120.4% of its greenhouse gas reduction target last year, surpassing its goal.
On the 27th, during the '2025 2nd Sejong City 2050 Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee' held at the Jiphyeon Room in City Hall, the city reviewed its basic plan for carbon neutrality and reported a total reduction of 31,277 tons of greenhouse gases last year.
The reduction target for last year was 25,969 tons, meaning the city reduced 5,307 tons more greenhouse gases than planned.
Most of the reduction came from the transportation sector (14,967 tons) and the waste sector (12,189 tons), which together accounted for 86.7% of the total reduction.
Mayor Choi Minho stated, "In particular, the Sejong Ieung Pass, which encourages the use of eco-friendly public transportation, played a significant role in the transportation sector, while the operation of the comprehensive municipal waste treatment facility greatly contributed to resource circulation and energy recovery in the waste sector."
