Icheon to Provide Annual Bus Fare Support of up to 360,000 Won for Seniors Aged 70 and Above

Selected for "Gyeonggi Province Senior Transportation Fare Support Program"
To Be Implemented in November... Applies to All Buses in the Seoul Metropolitan Area

Starting in November, the city of Icheon in Gyeonggi Province will provide annual bus fare support of up to 360,000 won for seniors aged 70 and above.

On the 27th, the Icheon city government announced that it had been selected for Gyeonggi Province's "Senior Transportation Fare Support Program." With this selection, the city explained that it plans to secure additional budget for senior transportation fare support and expand the range of beneficiaries.

Previously, Icheon city had planned to provide quarterly reimbursements of up to 40,000 won for intra-city bus fares to residents aged 70 and above starting in July. However, following its selection for the provincial program, the city will adjust the start date to November and expand the scope of support to align with the Gyeonggi Province initiative.

With this selection, seniors aged 70 and above who possess a driver's license will receive bus fare support of 60,000 won per quarter, up to 240,000 won annually. For those without a driver's license, support will increase to 90,000 won per quarter, up to 360,000 won annually. This represents an increase of up to 200,000 won compared to the city's previously planned program. The range of eligible buses will also expand from intra-city buses within Icheon to all buses within the Seoul metropolitan area.

Kim Kyunghee, Mayor of Icheon, stated, "With Icheon being selected for this Gyeonggi Province program, we are able to provide greater mobility rights and increased benefits to local seniors," adding, "We will work closely with Gyeonggi Province to ensure smooth implementation of the program."
