Driver Realizes Mistake After Motorcycle Honks at Car Driving with Fuel Nozzle Attached

Car Finally Stops After Motorcycle Rider’s Gestures
"Didn’t Even Check the Side Mirror," Netizens Point Out

A vehicle was seen driving with a fuel nozzle hose still attached on a road in Daejeon. On May 27, a video showing a car traveling on a road with a yellow fuel nozzle inserted was uploaded to various online communities and social networking services (SNS). The original poster wrote, "The fuel nozzle villain appeared in Daejeon," and added, "A passing motorcycle honked and gestured to get the car to stop." In the video posted on SNS, the vehicle is seen driving with the fuel nozzle and its attached hose dragging along the ground. Upon noticing this, the motorcycle rider honked at the car with the fuel nozzle still inserted and gestured toward the driver while riding alongside in the adjacent lane.

Eventually, after the motorcycle rider’s gestures, the car stopped and the driver got out, appearing quite startled and saying, "What on earth?" before looking back. The driver then hurriedly removed the fuel nozzle. It is presumed that the driver forgot to remove the fuel nozzle after refueling and drove off from the gas station. If the motorcycle rider had not stopped the car, the fuel hose could have snapped back and struck another vehicle, creating a dangerous situation that could have led to a secondary accident.

The original poster pointed out, "There were at least three opportunities to notice? the sound and impact when the nozzle broke off, checking the shoulder (tire shoulder area) and side mirror when merging onto the road from the gas station, and the friction noise of the fuel nozzle dragging on the ground." He added, "Even if you ignore the sounds, it means the driver never checked the side mirror while driving."

Viewers who saw the video commented with reactions such as, "If the fuel nozzle is torn off, doesn’t fuel spill from the pump?" and "What happens at a gas station without a fuel nozzle?" A similar incident occurred in Incheon around March. In Namdong-gu, Incheon, police received a report from a witness that a compact car was driving with a fuel nozzle still attached. According to the police investigation, the driver, a woman in her 50s, had refueled at a nearby self-service gas station and drove about 20 to 30 meters without removing the fuel nozzle. As there were no injuries or significant property damage, and the driver and gas station reached a settlement through insurance, the police closed the case at the scene.
