Choi Minho, Mayor of Sejong City, requested support from the Korea Council of Provincial Governors for the completion of Sejong as the administrative capital.
According to the city on May 27, Mayor Choi attended the 18th executive meeting of the Korea Council of Provincial Governors held in Yeouido, Seoul on May 26 as Vice Chairman. At the meeting, he proposed the prompt implementation of the completion of the administrative capital and the establishment of the Comprehensive Local Autonomy Town.
The meeting was attended by Yoo Jungbok, Mayor of Incheon (Chairman), Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do (Vice Chairman), and Kang Gijeong, Mayor of Gwangju (Auditor). In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of local self-government, the participants discussed ways to strengthen decentralization and balanced regional development.
At the meeting, Mayor Choi said, "I ask the Korea Council of Provincial Governors to take the lead in spreading public consensus among citizens and residents on completing Sejong as the administrative capital."
He further emphasized, "The completion of the administrative capital is not only a constitutional and legal issue, but a matter of survival for Korea," adding, "Eliminating supply simply because there is no demand in the regions will only accelerate regional extinction," as he stressed the paradigm of generating demand through supply.
Mayor Choi also requested, "In line with the construction of the National Assembly Sejong Office and the Presidential Office, I ask for your cooperation in the prompt relocation of the Council (currently located in Seoul) to Sejong City, as well as in the establishment of the Comprehensive Local Autonomy Town in Sejong."
