"Let's Paint Old Fire Hydrants Brightly"...Hyundai Mobis Employee Volunteer Activity

Volunteer Activities Conducted in Jongno Fire Station District
Hyundai Mobis Employees and Families Paint Fire Hydrants to Enhance Safety

On May 27, Hyundai Mobis announced that it had carried out a volunteer activity in which employees painted old ground fire hydrants in bright colors to help prevent illegal parking near hydrants.

More than 100 Hyundai Mobis employees and their family members participated in this event, which was held in cooperation with the Jongno Fire Station. The fire hydrant painting volunteer activity is a program designed to put into practice Hyundai Mobis's core social contribution value of safety.

Ground fire hydrants are firefighting facilities typically installed at the boundary between sidewalks and roads, providing the first source of water for fire suppression in the event of a fire. In Jongno-gu, there have been ongoing concerns that the identification of ground hydrants is difficult due to illegal parking, illegally dumped garbage, and the proximity of traditional markets, which could hinder initial fire suppression efforts in the event of a fire.

Hyundai Mobis organized this volunteer activity both to raise local residents' awareness of fire prevention and to improve the visibility and accessibility of fire hydrants. According to current road traffic laws, parking is prohibited within 5 meters of fire water supply facilities such as ground hydrants. Moreover, since the water carried by fire trucks is typically exhausted within an average of five minutes after arrival at a fire scene, the management and maintenance of ground hydrants is essential. On this day, Hyundai Mobis painted aging hydrants in bright colors and cleaned up the surrounding environment, fulfilling its role as a safety guardian in the city center.

Over the past two years, Hyundai Mobis has improved the visibility of approximately 600 ground fire hydrants in Seoul, including those in Jongno-gu and Seocho-gu, through its hydrant painting volunteer activities. The company plans to conduct additional activities in the first half of this year and to expand the initiative to the greater Seoul metropolitan area.
