"Smart Beehives" Equipped with Temperature Control Devices Distributed to 11 Local Farms
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 27 that it will carry out a pilot project to foster honeybees using smart (ICT) beekeeping technology for local beekeeping farms, in order to address the issue of mass honeybee deaths caused by abnormal weather events.

The city has distributed "smart beehives," which can be equipped with heating devices to maintain a constant internal temperature, to 11 local beekeeping farms. These smart beehives allow beekeepers to automatically control the internal temperature using a smartphone if it drops below a set level, helping honeybees?vulnerable to the cold?survive the winter safely.
Based on the results of this pilot project, the city plans to expand the smart beekeeping technology program next year.
An official from the Yongin Agricultural Technology Center said, "We hope this pilot project will help reduce damage to beekeeping farms and create a stable environment for beekeeping," adding, "We will continue to introduce various smart agricultural technologies in response to climate change."
