Yeongdeok County Public Health Center Provides Infectious Disease Prevention Education at Infection-Vulnerable Facilities for Wildfire Evacuees

The Yeongdeok County Public Health Center in North Gyeongsang Province will conduct respiratory infectious disease prevention education, starting in mid-May, primarily targeting infection-vulnerable facilities used by wildfire evacuees within the county.

Infection-vulnerable facilities, where many people live together, are at high risk of rapid disease transmission in the event of an outbreak. Additionally, as these facilities have a large proportion of elderly individuals and those with underlying health conditions, proactive preventive measures are especially important.

Accordingly, the Yeongdeok County Public Health Center will provide the following to staff and users of 19 infection-vulnerable facilities in the county: guidance on daily quarantine rules such as ventilation and disinfection, hands-on training in proper handwashing using 'view box' equipment, and education on personal hygiene management and infection prevention practices.

In addition, the center is distributing infection prevention supplies such as masks and hand sanitizers. It is also promoting compliance with facility-specific infectious disease management guidelines to ensure a swift response in the event of an outbreak.

Furthermore, the Yeongdeok County Public Health Center has formed a "one facility, one dedicated response team" system to maintain emergency contact channels and is operating a continuous monitoring system to prepare for potential group outbreaks of infectious diseases.

Gong Jaeyong, Director of the Yeongdeok County Public Health Center, stated, "Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of preventing infectious diseases and responding quickly within group living facilities has become even more prominent." He added, "Because small actions can lead to significant prevention, we are focusing on hygiene education and promotion, such as proper handwashing and cough etiquette, while remaining vigilant for any possible outbreaks."
