Bucheon City announced on May 26, 2025, that it will be recruiting additional recipients for its "Handssup Happy House" project, which aims to improve the residential environment for low-income households.
This recruitment targets vulnerable groups such as single-parent families, child-headed households, and elderly people living alone, among households with an income at or below 70% of the median. Applications can be submitted at the local administrative welfare center in the applicant's residential area until June 9.
If selected, recipients will receive support for material and labor costs needed for home repairs from organizations such as the Gyeonggi Chapter of the Korea Housing Builders Association and the Bucheon Architects Association of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects. Depending on the structure and condition of the home, customized renovations such as replacement of interior finishing materials and installation of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting will be carried out.
The Handssup Happy House project is a residential environment improvement initiative that, in cooperation with private partner organizations, renovates aging homes through wallpapering, flooring, lighting replacement, and insulation upgrades to enhance the quality of life for vulnerable populations. Last year, the city repaired and renovated a total of 22 homes through two residential improvement projects (G-Housing and Handssup Happy House).
An official from Bucheon City stated, "The residential environment improvement project is more than just home repairs; it is a warm policy that enhances the quality of life for vulnerable groups. We will continue to actively promote these efforts so that more neighbors can live in a pleasant residential environment through cooperation between the public and private sectors."
