Maximizing the Synergy of Hanwha Ocean, Hanwha Aerospace, and Hanwha Systems' Integrated Technologies
First Operation of Hanwha Integrated Pavilion at MADEX 2025... Realizing the Vision of Integrated Solutions On-Site
Hanwha will showcase its unique integrated maritime power technologies, ranging from naval vessels to unmanned systems and energy systems.
The core structure of Hanwha's future integrated maritime solutions is based on Hanwha Ocean's capabilities in both surface ships and submarines, which boast top-tier technology in both areas. These are combined with Hanwha Systems' unmanned systems, which dominate the combat management system (CMS) market?the "brains" of warships. Additionally, Hanwha Aerospace's lithium-ion energy storage systems (ESS), which maximize submarine submergence capabilities, further enhance the synergy of Hanwha's integrated technologies.
At MADEX 2025, the three defense companies will operate the Hanwha Integrated Pavilion for the first time. The Hanwha Pavilion will feature both physical exhibits and digital content on-site to effectively communicate the vision of future integrated maritime solutions.
Hanwha Ocean plans to highlight its total capabilities, focusing on the Jangbogo-III Batch-II submarine and the Korean next-generation destroyer (KDDX), as well as its export-oriented ship design and construction technologies, including MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul). The company will also unveil technologies such as manned-unmanned teaming systems and smart production platforms, once again demonstrating its competitiveness as a premier shipbuilder.
At this exhibition, Hanwha Ocean will present a total of eight vessels featuring its latest technologies: two unmanned vessels, three surface ships, and three submarines.
In the unmanned vessel category, the combat unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) and the unmanned power command and control ship will be on display. Notably, the unmanned power command and control ship is a strategic asset designed to support the Navy's "Smart Navy" initiative, featuring the Navy Sea GHOST manned-unmanned integrated combat system. It is capable of carrying and controlling various unmanned assets while conducting maritime operations.
In the surface ship category, Hanwha will showcase the Korean advanced destroyer KDDX, the latest Ulsan-class frigate Batch-IV, and an export-version frigate for Thailand. The KDDX will feature electric propulsion, an integrated mast, advanced hull design, integrated networks, a smart bridge, and smart ship technologies for crew reduction.
In the submarine category, Hanwha will present models in the 2,000-ton, 2,800-ton, and 3,600-ton classes, targeting both domestic and overseas markets. In particular, the 3,600-ton submarine, which has attracted interest from countries such as Poland and Canada, is the world's first to be equipped with both air-independent propulsion (AIP) and lithium-ion batteries, offering the best submerged endurance among existing diesel submarines.
Hanwha Systems will unveil its "combat unmanned surface vehicle" for the first time, designed to prevent enemy forward base infiltration in frontline waters. Hanwha Systems has developed its own CMS, which commands and controls all sensors and weapons on naval vessels, achieving a 99% supply rate for the Republic of Korea Navy's surface and underwater vessels, and maintaining its position as the market leader.
Notably, Hanwha Systems will debut both the combat unmanned surface vehicle and the loitering unmanned surface vehicle, which are the "common denominators" of its ship combat systems and maritime unmanned system technologies, demonstrating overwhelming weapon system capabilities at the exhibition.
Other highlights include the cockpit-type integrated bridge system (IBS), next-generation consoles and intelligent combat management systems (CMS) for future surface ships, and combat systems for Son Wonil-class (Type 214) submarines and export submarines, presenting a vision for the future "Smart Battleship."
In addition, Hanwha will demonstrate the only domestic "military low-earth orbit satellite communication" technology, which hyper-connects all battlefields to optimize future naval manned-unmanned integrated systems.
On the opening day, May 28, Hanwha will host a "cocktail reception," inviting more than 100 guests, including Navy Chief of Staff Yang Yongmo, senior military officials, foreign high-level delegations, and defense industry representatives, to introduce its maritime defense business.
At this event, Hanwha will highlight its future capabilities to lead the battlefield environment of tomorrow, emphasizing the integrated maritime power technologies of its three defense companies?Hanwha Ocean, Hanwha Systems, and Hanwha Aerospace.
A Hanwha representative stated, "At MADEX 2025, we will showcase our technological capabilities and future vision based on the synergy among Hanwha's three defense companies," adding, "Through Hanwha's unique strengths, which encompass not only world-class shipbuilding technology but also command and control systems, we will further expand strategic cooperation with domestic and international customers."
