Former UK Prime Minister Johnson Becomes Father of Nine at Age 60

Fourth Child with Third Wife
Rumors Swirl of Johnson's Political Comeback After 2023 Resignation

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 60, has welcomed his fourth child with his third wife.

On May 24 (local time), Johnson's wife Carrie Johnson, 37, posted a photo of their newborn on Instagram, writing, "Welcome to the world, Poppy Eliza Josephine Johnson, born on May 21." Carrie continued, "I can't believe how tiny and beautiful you are. We are so lucky," adding, "I haven't slept at all since you were born. I just want to keep looking at how lovely you are."

Carrie is Johnson's third wife and was married to him during his term as prime minister from July 2019 to September 2022.

Johnson first married his Oxford University classmate in 1987, but divorced in 1993 after an affair with his second wife, lawyer Marina Wheeler, was revealed. He had no children with his first wife, but had four children with Wheeler. Separately, he fathered a daughter with art consultant Helen Macintyre in an extramarital relationship. With his current wife Carrie, whom he married in 2021, he has had four more children, bringing the total number of his children to nine.

Johnson, a member of the Conservative Party, resigned as prime minister in 2022 due to a series of scandals and a loss of trust within his party. He was embroiled in the so-called 'Partygate' scandal for holding parties at 10 Downing Street, the prime minister's residence, in violation of COVID-19 lockdown rules, and was found to have made false statements during a parliamentary investigation into the matter. In addition, he faced public backlash over the appointment of Chris Pincher, who resigned amid sexual harassment allegations, issues regarding the renovation costs of the prime minister's residence, and tax increases. In June 2023, a year after his resignation, he also stepped down as a Member of Parliament after the parliamentary investigation into 'Partygate' concluded that he had lied.

Meanwhile, amid falling approval ratings, there are reportedly moves within the struggling UK Conservative Party to bring Johnson back into politics. The Sun reported that some of Johnson's former colleagues are preparing for his return. Citing senior Conservative Party sources, the outlet stated, "Conservative figures believe that Johnson is the only person who could defeat Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform Party."
