Joining Hands to Strengthen Social Safety Net... Gwanak District Holds First 2025 Community Policing Council Meeting

Gwanak District (District Mayor Park Junhee) held the first Gwanak District Community Policing Council of 2025 on May 22 to establish a local safety network.

The meeting was attended by District Mayor Park Junhee, who served as the chairperson; Vice Chairperson Choi Inkyu, Chief of Gwanak Police Station; Jeong Yun-gyo, Chief of Gwanak Fire Station; Kim Younghwa, Director of the Dongjak-Gwanak Office of Education; and approximately 20 other council members.

The meeting began with the appointment of five new council members, including the president of the Green Mothers' Association and other local public safety stakeholders. Afterwards, Gwanak Police Station reported on the main policing priorities for 2025, and participants discussed ways to establish an inter-agency joint response system to improve residents' perceived safety and devise effective crime prevention measures.

The district plans to use this meeting to explore collaborative measures for enacting an ordinance to support autonomous police affairs, extending the support period for temporary shelters for female victims of violence, and expanding support for crime victims.

The Gwanak District Community Policing Council was first established in 2011 through the enactment of the "Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of the Community Policing Council." Since then, it has held 13 meetings and carried out special joint campaigns involving the public, private sector, and police, continuing efforts to strengthen community safety in the district.

District Mayor Park Junhee stated, "Community safety requires close cooperation between the district office, the police, and the local community," and added, "Through the Community Policing Council, we will strengthen inter-agency cooperation, build effective collaborative and joint response systems, and establish a robust social safety net."
