Decision on Proposal and Open Call Methods
to Fully Reflect Residents' Opinions
The method for selecting the 'second round of redevelopment projects in Bundang for 2025,' which is currently being promoted by Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, is expected to be finalized in June 2025.
On May 23, Seongnam City announced that it is keeping various options open, including resident proposals and open calls, and is widely collecting opinions from both residents and experts.
This selection process is being carried out in a way that prioritizes resident-centered policy decisions, in line with the policy of Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin. Seongnam City stated, "We will decide on the selection method after fully reflecting residents' opinions, and we have never unilaterally decided on a single method," dismissing some media reports.
Seongnam City is also reviewing possible adjustments to the 'urban function revitalization' criterion, which is one of the evaluation standards applied when promoting redevelopment projects.
This criterion was introduced in the past to differentiate between candidate complexes during the selection of pilot districts. However, some residents have pointed out that it acts as an economic burden.
In response, a Seongnam City official explained, "We are clearly informing residents that the urban function revitalization criterion can be proposed voluntarily, and we are reviewing various ways to adjust the evaluation standards to a level that residents can accept."
Seongnam City also stated its intention to continue a careful and transparent process based on communication with residents, so that the Bundang redevelopment project can proceed as a sustainable and balanced redevelopment initiative.
