The outdoor grand theater at Seolbong Park was originally constructed for the 2001 World Ceramic Expo. The city had been reviewing whether to rebuild the facility after conducting a detailed structural safety inspection due to its aging condition. However, in November last year, during a period of heavy snowfall, the tent covering the seating area collapsed and the truss steel joints were damaged. In December of the same year, the city carried out an emergency demolition of the tent and seating to prevent safety accidents.
Based on the results of a detailed structural safety inspection of the remaining structures, the city is currently conducting a feasibility study and preparing a basic plan for the reconstruction of the performance hall.
A city official stated, "We plan to complete repairs to the performance hall as soon as possible and will continue to allow normal venue rentals until reconstruction work begins."
