The ShinHyup Social Contribution Foundation announced on May 23 that it will provide a social contribution budget of 500 million won through the '2025 ShinHyup Our Neighborhood Eobuba' project, enabling ShinHyup branches nationwide to directly operate community-based public interest projects.
On May 22, the Foundation held the launch ceremony for the '2025 ShinHyup Our Neighborhood Eobuba' project at the Daejeon ShinHyup Central Training Institute. Representatives from selected ShinHyup branches and volunteer groups across the country attended the ceremony, where they shared the project's direction and implementation plans, and reaffirmed their commitment to creating tangible changes in their local communities.
'ShinHyup Our Neighborhood Eobuba' is a project that supports local ShinHyup branches and the Duseonmoa Volunteer Group, which is composed of branch employees and executives, in autonomously planning and carrying out activities needed in their communities. Since its inception in 2015 and up until last year, more than 24,000 ShinHyup employees and members have participated, with a cumulative total of approximately 138,000 beneficiaries.
This year, 36 ShinHyup branches and 13 city and provincial volunteer groups have been selected nationwide. The project will provide up to 5 million won per ShinHyup branch and up to 18 million won per volunteer group. This represents an increase of 2 million won and 5 million won, respectively, compared to the previous year, reflecting the Foundation's intention to achieve both qualitative and quantitative growth in its social contribution activities.
This year's main projects include supporting drone delivery infrastructure in island regions, programs to prevent depression among the elderly, economic education and financial counseling for single parents, Korean literacy education for illiterate seniors, and support for revitalizing social economy organizations within local communities. These diverse public interest activities are tailored to the unique characteristics of each region.
In addition, the Foundation plans to carry out campaigns and public interest activities totaling 6.5 billion won, including support for traditional markets and small businesses, inclusive finance initiatives, mentoring and scholarships to foster cooperative talent, and emergency living expense support for vulnerable groups. Through these efforts, the Foundation aims to address welfare blind spots in local communities and contribute to establishing a sustainable foundation for growth.
Jung Jinmok, Head of the ShinHyup Foundation, emphasized, "Our Neighborhood Eobuba is more than just a support program; it is a participatory social contribution platform where community members take the initiative and collaborate. By realizing the values of cooperatives, we aim to build a healthy society where everyone lives together in harmony."
