Launching Dreams... Yeongdeungpo-gu Takes Middle Schoolers on Aerospace Journey

The Yeongdeungpo-gu Future Education Foundation announced that it will hold a launching ceremony and host a "Domestic Aerospace Camp" for 26 middle school students from May 23 to 24, with the goal of nurturing future talents who will lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The "Domestic Aerospace Camp" is a Yeongdeungpo-style specialized science camp designed to increase students' interest in and enthusiasm for science, and to help young people discover their dreams and talents by supporting visits to cutting-edge scientific facilities. By expanding the concept of scholarship programs, which previously focused only on cash support, the camp aims to provide a variety of experiences that broaden students' perspectives and help them grow into global talents.

On May 23, students will visit several themed exhibition halls at the National Gwangju Science Museum, including the Artificial Intelligence Hall and the Science and Art Hall. Through these visits, they will gain an understanding of advanced and convergent technologies leading the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and have valuable time to consider the future direction of scientific and technological development.

On May 24, students will visit the Naro Space Center in Goheung, Jeonnam, Korea's first space launch site, which launched both the Naroho and Nuriho rockets. In particular, the launch site and launch control building at the Naro Space Center, which the students will tour, are areas normally closed to the public, offering a rare opportunity to witness the heart of Korea's space development firsthand. In this symbolic space that marks a milestone in the history of Korean space exploration, students are expected to experience real research facilities and, through lectures and career guidance from active researchers, further develop their aspirations in the aerospace field.

In the future, the district plans to organize an "Overseas Aerospace Camp." Scheduled for July 22 to 25, the camp will take 25 middle school students selected through a fair process to visit the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, among other sites in Japan.

A representative from the Yeongdeungpo-gu Future Education Foundation stated, "The valuable experiences of seeing and hearing things firsthand will become a great asset for students as they set their career paths and grow," adding, "We will continue to strive to nurture future creative and convergent talents through a variety of field-oriented educational programs."
