Kumho Tire has initiated proactive measures to ensure prompt compensation for residents affected by the fire at its Gwangju plant. The company aims to accelerate the recovery process while also supporting the psychological well-being of local residents.

According to Kumho Tire on May 22, the company submitted a list of approximately 2,700 residents who reported fire-related damages between May 19 and May 21 to the insurance company on this day.

Based on this list, the insurance company will begin contacting the affected residents directly by phone starting May 23, providing one-on-one consultations and guidance on the compensation procedures.

Kumho Tire had originally planned to collect damage reports for ten days starting May 19 before beginning the formal compensation process.

However, due to growing anxiety among local residents following the large-scale fire and an increasing number of cases reporting physical symptoms such as coughing and sore throat, the company made a swift decision to expedite the compensation process.

This means the process has been moved up by more than a week compared to the original schedule.

Kumho Tire stated, "To ensure swift recovery and a return to daily life, we have decided to mobilize all administrative resources to proceed with the compensation process faster than originally planned," adding, "As a member of the local community, Kumho Tire will continue to strive for better coexistence and mutual growth."

Meanwhile, at 7:11 a.m. on May 17, a large fire broke out at Plant 2 (compounding process) within Kumho Tire's Gwangju facility. Three people, including employees and firefighters, were injured in the incident, and 50 to 60 percent of the plant was damaged. Police and fire authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
