Acting President Lee Emphasizes Thorough Preparation and International Leadership
Summit to Take Place in Gyeongju This October
On May 22, Jooho Lee, Acting President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Education, stated, "Our government must ensure the success of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, which we are hosting for the first time in 20 years. This will be an opportunity to demonstrate our leadership on the international stage and enhance our national credibility."
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Acting President Lee made this request while presiding over the 7th meeting of the APEC Summit Preparatory Committee held at the Government Complex Seoul on the same day. He urged the participants to prepare even more thoroughly to ensure the successful and smooth hosting of the summit. The APEC Summit will be held in Gyeongju, South Korea, at the end of October.
During this meeting, participants reported and discussed the outcomes of the 2nd Senior Officials’ Meeting and the sectoral ministerial meetings recently held in Jeju, as well as the appointment of the artistic director for cultural events (director Yang Jungwoong). They also reviewed the current status of preparations for aviation, transportation, and medical measures, as well as events for business leaders.
The attendees agreed to continue encouraging the participation of national leaders and business figures from each country. They also decided to strengthen inter-agency cooperation systems to ensure that the matters discussed and reviewed at the meeting are implemented swiftly.
