A defendant who was on trial for assault has been indicted again after threatening a witness to provide false testimony.
The Public Trial Division of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (headed by Chief Prosecutor Choi Seonkyung) announced on the 22nd that a man in his 60s, identified as A, has been indicted and detained on charges of retaliatory intimidation under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
According to the prosecution, A is accused of seeking out a witness scheduled to testify in his trial and demanding false testimony while issuing threats. When the witness refused to provide false testimony, A reportedly threatened statements such as "I will kill you" and "I will set fire."
The witness, fearing for his safety due to A's threats, requested protection from a public prosecutor at the Southern District Prosecutors' Office. After securing related evidence, the prosecution obtained a warrant and arrested A.
A prosecution official stated, "We will continue to respond strictly to crimes that undermine the judicial order, such as retaliatory crimes and perjury, and will make every effort to protect victims and other key witnesses."
