Career Exploration Programs Held for University Students
Hands-on Experience and Briefings to Foster Interest in Vessel Traffic Control
The Gunsan and Yeosu Maritime Traffic Control Centers (VTS) of the West Sea Regional Maritime Police Agency (headed by Lee Myungjun) held on-site tours and career briefings on the afternoon of May 22 for students from Gunsan University and Chonnam National University, respectively, to expand opportunities for career exploration.
The Gunsan VTS introduced maritime traffic control operations and current status to 31 professors and students from the Department of Marine and Fisheries at Gunsan University who visited for the on-site tour. Through hands-on experience with control communications and a tour of the operations room, they highlighted the role and importance of maritime traffic control.

The Yeosu VTS visited Chonnam National University directly and held an outreach career briefing for 20 students from the Department of Maritime Police. The session covered key VTS operations, current management status, and the recruitment process for vessel traffic controllers, aiming to secure outstanding control personnel.
The students commented, "It was a valuable opportunity to learn in detail about vessel traffic service (VTS) operations, which are closely related to our future careers," and added, "We were able to understand the work of controllers who strive to ensure the safety and efficiency of vessel traffic 24 hours a day."
A representative from the West Sea Coast Guard VTS said, "We hope for continued interest in maritime safety and vessel traffic control operations," and added, "We will continue to collaborate with local universities on career exploration programs for students."
