Joint Development of SDV Technology with LG Electronics
Collaboration on Wireless Connectivity Solutions with Hanwha
"Korea is a Key Growth Market"
German semiconductor company Infineon Technologies is strengthening its collaboration with Korean companies by joining forces with LG Electronics and Hanwha NxMD in the automotive electronics sector.
On May 22, Infineon held a press conference for 'OktobertTech 2025 Seoul' at COEX in Seoul, where the company introduced its collaboration plans with Korean companies and its global technology strategy.
Infineon is the global market leader in automotive semiconductors. The company stands out in automotive power semiconductors, microcontroller units (MCUs), and sensor semiconductors.
This time, Infineon and LG Electronics have agreed to jointly develop core technologies for software-defined vehicles (SDVs) to enhance both safety and efficiency.
The companies will develop cross-domain controller (xDC) platforms, zone controllers, and high-performance computing (HPC) platform safety and security solutions, all utilizing Infineon's advanced semiconductor technologies.
The xDC platform strengthens vehicle performance and safety by integrating and optimizing data routing across various domains within the vehicle, such as infotainment and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The zone controller manages specific physical areas inside the vehicle and supports the integration of peripheral devices. In conjunction with the HPC platform, it is a core SDV technology that enables the implementation of intelligent vehicle architectures.
Infineon has previously collaborated with LG Electronics in the telematics (vehicle communication module) field, but this is the first time the two companies are working together in the SDV sector. The company expects that the combination of LG Electronics' automotive technology and Infineon's semiconductor technology will provide the essential foundation needed to realize advanced SDV platforms.
Infineon and Hanwha NxMD have formed a partnership to strengthen cooperation in the field of automotive wireless connectivity solutions.
With recent advances in electrification and autonomous driving technologies, the importance of key automotive modules such as cockpit domain controllers (CDCs) is increasing. CDCs integrate various information and functions within the cockpit and provide seamless wireless connectivity with a range of mobile devices.
Through this collaboration, Hanwha NxMD's wireless communication module, equipped with Infineon's state-of-the-art 'AIROC Wi-Fi-Bluetooth combo solution', will be installed in CDCs.
The company stated that this wireless communication module, with its compact size, excellent performance, and stable connectivity, has been selected as the optimal solution by global automotive parts manufacturers.
Infineon and Hanwha NxMD plan to use this partnership as an opportunity to expand their business and seek additional avenues for cooperation.
In Korea, Infineon has continued to collaborate with Hyundai Motor and Kia. Since the 2000s, Hyundai Motor and Kia have sourced sensor semiconductors and power semiconductors from Infineon. In addition, both parties signed a strategic collaboration agreement in October 2023 to jointly develop technologies aimed at improving the power performance of upcoming electric and hybrid vehicle models.
Andreas Urschitz, Chief Marketing Officer at Infineon, said, "Korea, which is rapidly growing in the semiconductor sector, is an important place for innovation and a key growth market for Infineon. The fact that Infineon has maintained the number one position in the automotive sector for five consecutive years is thanks to our partnership with Korea's innovative automotive industry."
